BLACK STUDY PROJECT
Character: Red Rum Owned by: Me This is in response to my attempts at stylizing dreadlocks. Today I sat down with a bunch of dread head and just asked them what they WANTED dreads to look like and feel like, so this is more of an idealized version of dreads. They of coarse look more like tentacles than hair. I'll be doing more with the realistic hair part later. This had come up in many of my previous images as well as my recent S.A.C.K. meeting, so it's been pretty well on my mind. Hopefully this answers a few questions and helps me work a few things out. I encourage comment regarding dreadlocks on this one Comments great work on the dreads. I like how they turned out.
-- Is it a good thing that children believe in the Tooth Fairy or the Hogfather or, shall we say, Father Christmas? Yes. We need to train our imagination on the little lies so that we can believe the big lies like "Justice," "Truth." - Terry Pratchett ok good but WHY?
what is it that makes you think they turned out well? -- As you well Know we can not change WHAT we are, But we can become better at being OURSELVES. -Hiroyuki Utatane  The farthest left dread puts me in mind of worm segments. Once I got that idea into my head, I couldn't picture her hair as anything other than a giant mass of earthworms.
Now, I LIKE earthworms, but I bet that's not what you were going for. -- And every color of the rainbow, and all of them spinning.  Wow! Oh man that is a lot of detail! and so sharp too. Love the dreads. nice work.

 ) I think the text looks good and leans more towards a natural feel, like something you'd see on someone. But the two in the middle and the one that coes down that back, seem like they are alittle higher than they should be in comparison to the dreads in the front. like they should all be at the same level. I dunno tha't just how i see it in my mind, I wouldn't know how to say if my thought is accurate without having seen varies styles of dreads on black women. Yeah, it's starting to have more of a Whoopi Goldberg feel to them, only fuller.

let's see ... well ... admittedly I liked the line-art a little bit better (now that it's colored) but it's mainly that the dreads kind of matched the rest of the picture style wise. The lines were very confident, but still were fairly minimal and had a bunch of suggested detail. The little lines you've put in the dreadlocks help to make it look a little better than just round long things.. but they look too neatly kept. I'm not doing a very good job of explaining.. but I tried. >_<
